I had wanted to write something dark and demonic, which made me think about the classic musical piece that encapsulated the early horror movies
And had been featured in the movie ‘Cape Fear’ with Robert de Niro. It was a descending set of minor chords which I decided to plagiarize into a Rock song. This passage became the chorus which featured the lyrics ‘Seek the Wise man’s Sorcery , live the Wise Man’s Fantasy, Fantasy. With this in place I needed a ferocious Riff to make the song bark at you, which by continuing the downward chord progression it presented itself in a way that by carrying on down the scale of the chorus riff I created a toe curling chugging Rock Riff with a twist which was punctuated by Ricks pounding Tom Toms in the same rhythm to grand effect.
The lyrics are suggesting that you reach out to grasp your opportunities as in “You seek your path, reach beyond the surface of yourself”. When recording Wise Man I chucked the kitchen sink at that layers of Guitars I put on it and made Jon and Rick’s Rhythm section as fat as I could. I also put Cecelia’s Vocal through a distortion pedal to give it a harsh demonic sound. To play it live was Earth Shattering but when we received our only Kerrang review this song was described as suffering from “To much Sword and Sorcery”

The surprisingly comical new video from roaring metal group Red Fang is a tip of the hat to the original “Predator.” Bandcamp New & Notable Sep 12, 2016
